Birthdays are the perfect excuse to celebrate exactly who someone is right now — the giggles, the attitude, the new confidence of another year. Our birthday sessions capture all of it, for ages 1 to 80.

Each session is a relaxed studio shoot with styled backdrop sets and outfit changes, built for any age and any energy level. Up to six people are welcome at no extra cost, so siblings and parents can jump in. Looking for a first birthday with cake? That's our Cake Smash — but for every other candle, this is the session.

Every year is worth remembering

We capture who your child — or you — are at this exact age, backdrops and all. Kids' birthday sessions are 45 minutes with two styled sets and two outfits; we follow the birthday star's lead and bring out the real personality, not a stiff pose. Bring balloons, signs, props, or anything that says who they are this year.

Adult and milestone birthdays photograph beautifully here too — a 30th, a 40th, a 50th, or just a year that feels worth marking. And if your family loves to celebrate often, the SMILE Club bundles a birthday session with two seasonal Monthly Special sessions to keep the magic going all year. Every session is in our climate-controlled Folsom studio with free parking out front.

After your shoot

How do I get my photos?

Your session fee includes the shoot and a set of edited digital images. To see the rest of your gallery and choose your favorites, there are two ways to go.

Come in for a viewing

All sessions require a classic viewing session, booked 4–10 days after your shoot, to proof your photos and make your selections.

Online galleries are not available — selections are made in person at your viewing session. Your viewing is at our Folsom studio — even if your session was on location.

Cancellation policy

All fees are non-refundable, but transferable if rescheduled 48 hours prior to your session. Sessions rescheduled within 48 hours are subject to a $25 service fee. Please call 916-280-5013 to reschedule your session.

Birthday Photoshoot FAQ

Is this only for kids?

Not at all — ages 1 to 80. Milestone adult birthdays (30, 40, 50, and beyond) photograph beautifully, and so do just-because years. Whatever the candle count, we'll celebrate it.

What's the difference between a Birthday Session and a Cake Smash?

Cake Smash is built specifically for first birthdays — a custom themed backdrop and the cake. The Birthday Session is the more general option for any age, no cake required. If you're after a first-birthday smash, see our Cake Smash page.

Can we bring props and decorations?

Please do — balloons, signs, sports gear, hobby items, milestone numbers, anything that says who they are this year. We'll build the session around it.

What is the SMILE Club?

It's a way to celebrate all year: a birthday photoshoot plus two exclusive Monthly Special sessions, with 3 images per session, for $149. It's intended for one child, and you can add a second child's Birthday Mini for $59.

How many people can be in the photos?

Up to 6 people are included at no extra cost on the kids' Birthday Session, so siblings and parents are welcome to jump in. The Adult Birthday session is for immediate family, up to 6.

Should we book around the actual birthday?

No requirement — most families book the week of or week after, but any time works. We capture who they are right now, which is what makes each year worth remembering.
